Police Escort Ensures Safe Autumn Migration for Herders in Akto County

With the change of seasons, Mugi Township in Akto County has entered its annual autumn migration. Local herders are driving their livestock along traditional routes in a large-scale seasonal movement. One section of the journey, the Kizijiek uninhabited area on the Pamir Plateau, sits at an altitude of around 4,500 meters and poses serious safety challenges.

Since the migration season began in September, the Mugi Border Police Station under the Kezhou Border Management Detachment of the Xinjiang Entry-Exit Border Inspection General Station has focused on the herders’ practical needs. Police officers have set up escort teams, increased patrols in key areas, closely monitored weather conditions, maintained order along the routes, and provided safety education. Acting in multiple roles, they have safeguarded vital grazing areas and helped herders overcome difficulties along the way.

“Cattle and sheep are easily startled. Keep the herd together to prevent straying, and be sure to wear reflective clothing at night,” officers and auxiliary police reminded herders as they worked tirelessly on the migration routes. They not only guided livestock safely but also assisted in driving herds toward fertile winter pastures, while continuously reminding herders to stay alert to risks. Thanks to their efforts, the livestock successfully reached grasslands over 100 kilometers away.

With the warmhearted escort of the police, this year’s migration concluded smoothly. At the same time, herders’ awareness of safety and the rule of law was further strengthened, earning wide recognition and praise from the community.
